Well, I didn't get to sleep nearly as soon as I wanted... but I slept until noon, so I kinda got enough, I guess. Jean thought that she should take me out to IHOP, and we had to wait about fifteen minutes to get seated, which was OK, we got to do some people-watching. And we had some people watching us, so it all evened out. From there we went to the store and had a great time there, as usual, getting our exercise. Then we decided to stop by Big Lots and picked up a few things there... as usual. We came home and watched some TV for a while... mostly recorded stuff that we can skip through the commercials on, heh. Now. Healthcare. Peruse this chart, for it tells everything that you need to know about where we are. We spend, by far, the most of any country on healthcare per capita. there are two countries without universal health-care coverage... us and Mexico. They have the least money spent per capita, we have the most. In both cases, there are many fewer doctors' visits than most other countries. Our average life span is three years more than Mexico's, but we spend 8.86 times the money. But there are people who are telling the biggest lies that they can to scare us into thinking that the government will be taking something from us if we adopt a single-payer universal coverage system. They cherry-pick examples of people in other countries who have to wait in lines, like that's a big deal. Everyone waits in line here, but that's seldom mentioned. They say that the government will make health care decisions for you. Right now, the insurance companies make those decisions... for themselves, not for you. If they don't allow a test, or life-saving therapy, to be done, they make more money. And who makes the decision if you don't have insurance? Why, you do. And you have the certainty that if you get the treatment/test that you will soon be bankrupt and homeless. So you can just go home and die. And the insurance companies don't care. And your elected officials... don't care. Why are these people doing this? Why are they this way? Simple greed. They are getting paid, in some form or another, to do this... by the insurance companies. These are people that we elect to public office. Our election system needs to be changed drastically... our votes need to represent a real choice. People need to be able to run for office without already being rich. And that will not happen without throwing all of the rascals out... and Americans are afraid to do that. People with solutions are needed... nobody on the public stage right now is capable or willing. Today's picture: Callie's revenge!
