Nilknarf Daily Haiku

in the very midst
of the next revolution
we will know what's wrong.....

All this talk of revolutions has made me frowny.

Well, not really....

I figgered that the best time to mimic a frown was on a day that I wore a red shirt.

I had the alarm set for 08:30, and I had been banging the snooze... and about 09:00 I heard another alarm.

I thought how nice, I set my phone's alarm! even though I didn't remember doing it.

My phone alarm wasn't set.

The noise machine alarm wasn't set.

But... the pacemaker in my chest? When the battery gets low, it sets off an alarm. But, since I'd never heard it before, I was momentarily confused.

Well, I'm not kidding anyone... I live my life with moments of confusion that sometimes stretch into day and weeks.

So I dutifully called my cardiologist's office, and the pacer lady was on outreach, so they had to call the tech rep in from Medtronics, and she could see me at 15:00.

Along with two other patients who were alarmed this morning... and they usually have only one or two a week.

I had Tyler come with me, just in case... but luckily, it wasn't necessary.

Yep, the battery had dropped slightly below the threshold of acceptability, and needed replacing.

Which means replacing the whole thing, of course, except for the leads, which are permanently adhered to the chamber walls now... they'll get those at autopsy.

So we came on home, and did not much of anything.

I was planning on going to Manhattan with Jean to meet a coupla her friends for lunch, but that didn't work out... one of them I had met before (and really liked... I suspect that I will like all of Jean's friends) and the other one I will meet at some other time.

I had called my old friend Ginny earlier to see if we all could go to supper yesterday, and she called back today, saying that they were free tonight, so we made plans to meet at Hunan's Chinese place... I've gotten to really like that place.

I was supposed to call her if we couldn't make it because of the pacer thing, and when they were ten minutes late, I started wondering if maybe I was supposed to call ***if*** we could make it....

But I was right the first time, they were just running late.

Jean had made it back home before 17:00, so we were OK there, and we had a very nice meal and great conversation.

Jean really liked them, and they seemed to like her, too... not that I was worried about that.

They had a new vehicle, a Chrysler hard-top convertible, and we salivated over that for a while in the parking lot... then got onto other subjects, and spent as much time in the parking lot as we did in the restaurant, heh.

A very enjoyable evening, it was.

But....

I drank four glasses of iced tea, and that was pretty stupid, I think. I'm already suffering prophetically for the lack of sleep that I will have tomorrow.

O'well. I've got to learn to not order iced tea, 'cause I don't know when to stop.

Well, I do, I just don't do it.

I shall attempt sleep anyway, however.
