A while ago, I said something like we need to become accustomed to paying more than a dollar a head for our lettuce. Well, was that ever stupid... I haven't been to a grocery store for ages, like maybe two years, and I wasn't really paying attention at the time, either. Last time I paid attention to the price of a head of lettuce, it was about $0.69.... So I thought that the estimate of a buck a head was probably high, kinda like the price of gas... gas that I buy about every other week. But a well-known, well-loved and very respected journaller set me straight (yeah, Mike, I'm talking about you!) But the fact that I don't do fact-checking points out the main problem: the folks who pick the lettuce? They're still making the same money that they made last time I bought a head of lettuce. So where's all that extra money going? Of course, part of it is due to transportation costs... a small part, considering the quantities involved. The rest of it? Into already fat pockets... of people who have had their taxes cut, again and again, by the present administration. The guy from south of the boarder who picks the lettuce? Still dirt-poor. And me any you, the people who buy the lettuce (well, except in my case, where Karen buys the lettuce...)? A little poorer. This is called capitalism, I believe. Or, modernly, *rampant* capitalism. It's a small example of capitalists being unfairly supported by politicians... because the politicians are paid. And I have a really poor opinion of politicians anyways, even before babyBush became the Resident of the white house. I remember, in days of yore, laughing at the stories of baksheesh, the money paid to politicos in other nations in order to get stuff done, heh. They were so backwards, but we Americans, no, we didn't put up with shit like that. Yet another example of my gross stupidity, I'm afraid. It's always gone on, and probably will continue as long as there's a greedy MF alive who thinks that he's in control of any situation.... Occasionally, someone goes overboard, and the other officials get angry, afraid that the guilty individual will expose them all, and then they hang one or two... then it's back to business as usual. And while we're on the subject of a**holes... Gw is saving these frozen enbroyos for what? They will never become people, not even dimwitted people who will vote for GW... they will become dead. As in not alive, as in useless. Used for research, they might bring relief to millions... but hey, that don't count. Use that veto, asshole. It will impress your dimwitted constituants. OK, enough. Hard time getting out of bed. Snoozebarred for about an hour, I did. And I was the runner today, and I ran. Missed no veins, so I guess that it was a good running day. Tard as shit, though. And I left a little early again... we only had six tech there when I left. The tech from GE was there again, giving us tips, and I enjoyed what little that I gleaned from that.... And it's hot. But it's not unusual being hot these last few days, the whole nation is. We will get cooler tomorrow, with storms and such scheduled.... St Louis got hit badly yesterday... no power for much of the city... I feel for those people. It was 105° here yesterday, and again today. And I live in AC and work in AC. Years ago, I had no AC, and it was miserable. Between wives, I lived with no AC, and got a heat stroke during the summer of 1980... that was a real bitch. I thought that sitting out on my front porch and drinking beer was the answer to the heat... well, it was, in a way. We had 36 days of heat over 100°F.... And this is only the third day of horrible heat. I was much younger then, heh. No AC would kill me today, I'm sure. So it's time to try to sleep....
too much heat is death... or cold.
I prefer the cold.
