Not really much to say about today.... I've just been avoiding the news whenever possible, but it does seem like thing in the NO vicinity are improving somewhat. I've been hearing it bandied about the web that these "refugees" had it coming, by not heeding the authorities when they said to abandon the city. And that is such bullshit. Here we sit in our houses and apartments with our computers with our SUVs parked in the driveways and garages, food in the fridge and a beer in our hands and judge these poor Americans. I don't know how anyone could live with the shame of having thought that.... Yeah, they're poor, and they're black, and certain elements among them took advantage of the lawlessness caused by the lack of local authority... but none of that overwhelms the fact that they're human and they're in need. I've done a small part in assuaging their needs...Barry Manilow has a foundation which will contribute a dollar for every dollar that you give, and Barry himself will chip in another dollar. This goes to the Red Cross. So if you give $500.00, the Red Cross gets $1,500.00. Pretty good deal, if you ask me. Got up pretty early today for a day off. About 10:00, Karen and I went out to Sams, then over to Walmart and then to Lowes. I got some socks and a new phone system from Sams, we got cat food at Walmart (I was hoping to find a cat door there, but no luck) and we took back some interior shutters at Lowes. Unfortunately, they've quit carrying them, so we just got a refund in the form of having the amount put on a card... a practice which I think really sucks. Since we'd also gotten some frozen food at Sam's, we came on home and had a bite to eat... then I called Home Depot about interior shutters. "Sure, we have 'em!" the guy cheerfully told me... so I drove down there. Well, they didn't have them... they'd take the measurements and have them made and sent to you... just like I can do on the web, heh. Jackasses. I did buy a cat door from them, though... it said on the cat door that most cats preferred it over others. I'll ask my cats what they think once it's in.... I did talk to JD briefly tonight... he and Tyler were fishing with their mother and her husband, so it wasn't much of a conversations, heh. He'd volunteered at the AstroDome yesterday, but he didn't say too much about it... maybe he'll write to us about it? Other than that, I've just been playing the guitar and solitaire.... O'yeah, I finally changed my quote at the bottom... I forget to do that for long periods, due to my CRS Syndrome, and the fact that I don't run across worthy quotes every day.... "There are 4 boxes to use in the defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, ammo. Use in that order. Starting now. "
