Daily Nilknarf Haiku

Winter wavers; alas
the spring and summer are neigh;
The weeds soon knee-high.

So, I didn't get to bed early last night after all. What I did was solve the problem with Tyler's computer. And no, I'm not gonna tell the secret, either. For one thing, it's *way* too embarassing.

Well, I guess I better tell anyway. It's a brand new machine, of course, with a brand new 80G HD in it. What I did was look up the drive manufacturer and read. And then... remember.

Any time that you buy a HD in a box, it comes with this disk. And you have to run the program on the disk, or the HD won't work, simple as that.

But a program disk didn't come with the computer, so I assumed that it was already prepped.

Wrong, of course.

The computer will recognize the disk that way, but software won't. Don't ask me why, I have no idea. When I bought my first 40 GIG drive, I remember having to use the program, but I thought that was just because I had an old machine with old BIOS.

So, downloaded and did that, ran that program. BANG! and also EUREKA! The SOB worked, installed the OS, everything hunky-dory.

Now all that's left is to stick it in the trunk and take it to him.

Which will be Thursday evening.

Which reminds me, I gotta pack and get my pills together and whatnot. Especially the whatnot.

The next six days are gonna be fun! Looking forward to seeing Mom, if even for a short while, and spending time with Tyler and JD and li'l Annette.

I'm figgering on leaving here around 17:00 and getting to Mom's about 21:00 and then leaving there about 08:00 and hitting Tyler's at 17:00; then I'll get the machine set up and head into Houston around 21:00 when the traffic's tolerable and finding JD and Annette's new place.

Then Monday night I'll stay at Tyler's and be on the road early and get to Topeka about twelve hours later... then back to work on Wednesday.

And updates? Probably not until Wednesday night. That's *next* Wednesday, not tomorrow.

No rants tonight on either politics nor religion, but there's one lurking on the horizon, I think.

And now, to bed. Tomorrow will be a long day with an early start.

Thanx for being here!
