Another hot, hot day here in Topeka. The official high was "only" 99F, but the heat index was 107. Frying-eggs-on-the-sidewalk-hot. Seems that I remember my brother trying to do that one Oklahoma summer long ago... I believe that it was a failure and wasted two perfectly good eggs. Or maybe it was me. Who can remember? I got called in at 02:45 this morning and came home at 05:00. Got to sleep until about 10:00, and I've been back and forth about ten times today, and I'm damned tired. And no help tonight, either. The night tech is on vacation, and they're using a mammo tech to cover... needless to say, she can't do CTs, but if there's an emergency mammogram, we're in luck! My buddy from night respiratory Joe and I were talking this evening, and he informed me that the half-hour driving time that we're supposed to be getting with each call... ain't happening, and hasn't been for the last four or five years. I think that I'll run the numbers on this next paycheck and see what happens... could be a pretty large lump sum payment coming up here... probably a lot more if I keep my mouth shut. Of course, I couldn't do that. Karen has been gone most of the day, Matt is having a party tonight and she's been over there. He was getting a pig to roast, I hope that she brings me home some. So, I'm gonna try to get some sleep, it'll probably have to come in one and two-hour segments. 22:51...
Another call, another hour gone. I'm starting to get really tired, like I should be making the most of these slight intervals. Karen isn't home yet, I don't know whether I should start worrying or not. I think probably not.
