It was an OK day, and it was Friday. Two days off now, two days to spend with Karen, two days to relax.
Busy at work today, we did a bunch of patients, most of them on time. Lotta people don't understand that when they make an appointment in a hospital, it's a little bit different than making an appointment in an office. Things happen in hospitals on an irregular basis, primarily for the purpose of disrupting schedules. And people get upset about it. "So, yeah, there is a patient on the third floor who might die if she doesn't get this CT scan right now... so what's that got to do with me? *My* appointment was for 15 minutes ago!" Well, OK, it's not really that frequent that a patient would die if they didn't get a CT scan, but it does frequently occur that treatment based on that CT scan can make a big difference in that patient's life. One of my emergency patients yesterday (or maybe it was the day before) came over to differentiate whether her symptoms were due to a bleed in her head or a stroke... unfortunately, it was a bleed in this case, and the lady died. But if it had been a stroke, the sooner that diagnosis was made, the more likely it would be that she would have a good outcome due to rapid treatment with anticoagulants. And I seem to be more frequently amazed at how insensitive and selfish people are than I am at how they are the opposite. Well, I guess that wasn't very nice, and it's not really true, either. Most of the people in this world that I've met are very good people. I just met some today that really weren't. And I can kinda relate to them being a little upset that things don't always go their way... hell, first they're sick, then they can't get their CT scan done on time! Who wouldn't be upset? Did the sarcasm come through all right there? Anyway, a whole weekend! And Karen got a new do today... I really like her hair short. She spends less time fiddling with it, and she can spend more time waiting on me... And it will continue being hot. Heat advisories... someone on KANU, the public radio station, was explaining the heat advisory:"We have to let people know when it's going to be hot..." Uh, I thought that was what a weather forecast was for? Y'know, when they say what the temperature's gonna be? So, it's gonna be really hot tomorrow. The KC Jazz and Blues festival is this weekend... mostly an outdoor show, in various places in KC, but mostly down by the old train station area, I forget what it's called. But way too hot for me... I can't imagine being outdoors for any length of time right now. So we'll probably just mostly do nothing again... maybe work a little bit on the kitchen, maybe some on the back deck... maybe just nothing. Most likely just nothing, I do have to do some studying on a system we've got at work, though... stuff on the web about Dicom, the protocols for storage and transmission of medical imaging... sounds like fun stuff, huh?
