My feeble attempt to nap yesterday before I went in to work didn't work, naturally. So I went in thinking I would be working until maybe 20:00 or maybe 21:00.
Needless to say, that didn't happen. I got outa there at 00:35, and I almost felt guilty leaving then.
Well, not really.
The girl that I was filling in for was supposed to work 16:00 until 20:00, but one of the temp techs got fired Tuesday. So they called the girl that I was working for, and she came in at 19:00 and worked until midnight. There was one other guy there, another temp tech, and he and I ran our butts off until 19:00, and then all three of us ran. Then at 21:00 the regular night tech, my opposite, came in, so there were four of us there, and it all calmed down.
When the other temp left at 22:00 all hell broke loose again... self-inflicted GSW, broken hip, a little girl that had swallowed some object (but she really didn't!), people with gut pain... and about that time, the main machine broke down.
If I would have left earlier, I'd have felt guilty. But I didn't, I stayed and saw it through. Yeah, the time-and-a-half did have something to do with it....
OK, some sleep now.
Sleep was had, at least a little bit. Karen got me up at 07:00, like I asked her to, and I had a pot of coffee and went to the banks to transfer my paycheck. For the last time, I think. I recall thinking that last time, too. They keep changing the date on me.
Since then I've just kinda been spacing, reading stuff on the web and thinking about putting my name in the pot for a travelling tech job. I really don't think that I'm gonna get any relief in my present job until July and frankly, I don't know if I can last that long.
The main problem still is "The Other Hospital" going on bypass; they are trying to keep their nurses happy by not having them work too hard. The union had recently made a big push there (and just barely lost) and they are unwilling or unable to hire more people... therefore, we are running our asses ragged.
From what I heard last night, they are bypassing all but pediatric and psychiatric cases. We got a guy with simple knee pain that they referred to us last night.
Anyway, back to the travelling tech thing... the girl that got fired on Tuesday had a job in another location on Wednesday. They are hungry for people, and paying way better than our hospital is... in fact, someone with one years' experience is getting what I'm getting, plus a per diem, housing and car rental.
If I only knew where I wanted to go!
Or... if I really wanted to go anywhere.
Anyway, I think that I'm gonna take a nap and be ready to party with Karen when she gets home...
