Karen and I had a nice morning together yesterday, then I went to bed about 13:00 and slept until 17:00; that seemed to be enough to get me by until about 23:00.
And I couldn't sleep past 03:00, dammit.
Anyways, this morning has been spent trying to get my Linux machines working as WIN machines... I plan on giving one to Matt and one to Patrick and Lacee. They're both 166MH boxes, but one (JDs old one) only has 24 MB of memory, which isn't enough to run Windows reliably.
18:10...
After I ate a coupla bologna and cheese sandwiches (love 'em!) I went to Best Buy to look around. They had a HD that I wanted to get, WD 40GIG, 7200RPM and Ultra-ATA-66, all of which just means that it's fast and big.
But I couldn't get Best Buy to sell it to me. When I went into the store, there were three guys in the computer department, and each of them asked me if they could help me while I was browsing... but when I was done with that, they were nowhere to be found. One of the employees from another department came over and paged them for me (their phone had been ringing for five minutes before the other guy came over... he was trying to phone them) and they never showed up after I waited another five minutes.
So when I got up to the counter, I complained that the girl charged me for both of them. But no, that was for the half-gallon jugs, and I got the gallon ones. Well, the damned sign was on the gallon door, dammit!
So I went home and started working on the computers again... still no luck getting the 24MB machine to work. So I decided to go out to the computer store in White lakes and look around.
And the traffic was bad... it was getting too late for me to be out, I guess, too close to 17:00 traffic. But anyway, when I got out there, they didn't have the memory that I needed anyway. But they did have a case that I really liked, and a cheap CD drive, so I got them.
Then it was Office Max next... and they did have the memory, but for more than I'm used to paying for it lately. But I got it anyway.
And they had the same HD that Best Buy did, and for the same price, so I got that too.
So I got home, and the damned memory didn't work.
And I'll probably have to wait until Monday before the other system gets here and I can put everything together. And I'm pretty impatient.
Right now, I'm bidding on ebay for a motherboard for the grandkids. It's getting harder to get stuff on ebay, there are people waiting until the last minute to bid, and there is no time to respond. Not that I would really want to... I usually set my proxy bid for no higher than I want to go for an item. But I'm constantly being outbid... maybe I'm cheaper than most people? Could be... sometimes, anyway. So I'm waiting for the bid to come in on a motherboard and 266 chip for about $30. Then I'm going to bed, I am. It's been a long time since 03:00 this morning, it has.
And speaking of the grandkids... I had a nice talk with Patrick tonight about his behaviour around here... he has gotten into the habit of getting the axe from the shed and chopping things pretty indescriminitely, and then leaving the pieces scattered all over the place. I'm not really very good with disciplining kids, but I think that I got through to him.
OK. I can wait until morning, I guess. I won't fret about it while I'm sleeping.
The afternoon didn't go so well.
So I said the hell with it and left. Went to the store, and I noticed that they had a sign for OJ... buy one, get one free, if you have a Dillons card... which I do.
