Short night... I went to bed around midnight, got up at 07:00; I was,
however, adequately rested, I thought. Right now, however, I'm starting
to fade. Not even 20:00 yet. I'm such a lightweight... I woke JD and Annette up about 10:00 and we sat around trying to figger
out how to spend the day. Watching the weather channel, we were informed
that Huntsville was going to get one to two inches of snow, so we kinda
decided to go out before that started. I took the camera along in case
we found something interesting. We really had no destination in mind, so we drove thorough town and
out the west side. We decided that there was going to be nothing of
interest there, and, as JD was making a U-turn, I saw this abandoned
house on our side of the road that looked rather photogenic and persuaded
JD to stop. The house was on the other side of the road now, and JD
found the emergency blinker lights while I fiddled with the camera. And a cop pulls up behind us. He opens up his door and starts to get
out, thinking that we were in trouble of some sort and I explain to
him what I'm doing. He was a youngster, probably JDs age, and seemed
like a really nice kid. JD and I walked across the road and I took about
six pictures (all that the memory holds) and we headed back to town. I mentioned that I wanted to stop at the store, and JD had a gift certificate
to Hastings, which is in the same shopping center, so we went to Hastings
first. He didn't find anything that he wanted, though. It had been sleeting a bit before we went in Hastings, and it kinda
kept up with a wintry mix for the next coupla hours. It doesn't snow
very often down here, and I would really hate to be out driving when
it did... these people are dangerous enough as it is. We went into Kroegers and got our supplies for the night... a coupla
pizzas, a ham, some yams and marshmallows. I'd decided to make New years'
eve supper, and I'd decided on ham and yams before I knew that Annette
was a vegetarian. One of the pizzas was meat-free, though... and she
enjoyed the candied yams that I made. And they turned out perfect, too. First time that I've ever made them,
but I remember Aunt Rheaba and Mom making them. I must've been paying
attention... I'm using a new HTML editor tonight, Dreamweaver - and I like it. Spell
check is really nice, I miss it when it's not there. I wish that there
was a universal spellchecker so that I could carry around my words on
a disk or something like that... or have them on the web. Wait... forget
I said that, that might be a money-making idea... Dreamweaver automatically inserts paragraph breaks, and I keep automatically
inserting them too, then having to delete them. I could get spoiled
really easily. Plans for tonight... just sitting around waiting for the new millenium,
I guess. It's not doing anything outside, and they've revised the forecast
to just one inch of snow. Mom, up in Enid, got three or four inches,
and Topeka was dry. Anyway, we'll watch TV and bang on pots or something
when the gong strikes, and I'll be talking to Karen on the phone. She's
staying with Lacee tonight.... I want to wish you all a happy new year, prosperity and happiness and
all of that. And, as usual... thanx for being here!
