Natterings, Notions

Notes

Another one of them hot days... 105F, I think it was. 80 miles north of here, in Omaha, the high was 85F. Not even fair.

Again, I didn't get enough sleep, awaking at 15:30 and not being able to go back to sleep. I decided to not let it bother me, and it didn't. I will probably sleep really well today, though.

Pretty steady at work last night... not really very busy, but every patient I had was a problem, so it seemed busier than it really was.

Thursday night I was out in the lobby by the ED and the ambulance bay talking to a security guy when a car pulls into the bay honking its horn. A young guy staggers out of the passenger side of the car holding his head an wailing... first impression was that he'd been shot.

But no... something even more evil. Yep, he had a bug in his ear, a beetle, to be more precise. And that'll drive you buggy... this guy had the screamin' meemies. The nurse shot some xylocaine into his ear canal and it deadened it up in about five minutes so that the doc could remove the bug. The guy was really happy when he left.

That's what we're all about... happy customers.

I've been thinking a lot lately. I think that it's the drugs... anyway, thinking about how minute we are in the universe. You know, those angsty thoughts. Thinking about how our wisest men really aren't wise, and how wise the common educated person is now. Well, that's stretching it a little, but I think that wisdom comes in smaller, easier-to-handle chunks. In fact, if you subscribe to any of the common joke-of-the-day lists, you know exactly what I mean.

I also did a lot of this thinking while I was working on the sewer line this morning... yep, again, dammit. I noticed that it was plugged up again right before I had to leave for work last night.

Working on plugged sewer lines will make you think of lots of shit that you wouldn't normally think. Like, who the hell has been putting all of this toilet paper down the stool?

It seems like the people around here (with the exception of yours truly) need wads and wads of TP with which to wipe their butts and other nether regions. I don't really understand that... but there are lots of things that I don't understand. There is a sink in the bathroom, and soap, and if perchance you did get something on your fingers whilst taking care of business, why, you could just wash it off. In fact, many people make it a practice to wash their hands after using the toilet. Especially if you've worked in medicine any...

So anyway, toilet paper is the bane of narrowed sewage lines, especially lots of wads of toilet paper.

And just where, you ask, is the connection to wisdom here?

It's just a little chunk of wisdom. Keep your pipes clean. Don't put anything in your pipes to clog them up.

Metaphorically speaking... No, let's just leave it at the practical level right now. Keep your pipes clean.

More tomorrow...

Thanx for being here!
