I have not smoked for    Days!

I did get some sleep yesterday before I came down to Enid... about three hours. Just enought to get me here, but not enough to keep me from wanting to smoke. So, dammit, I bought a pack at the Emporia rest-stop, 50 miles from Topeka. I smoked maybe half of them before I got to Enid, where my conscience struck me and I threw them away.

It's a long drive from Topeka to Enid, about five hours driving just below the speed limit, my preference. I don't need the worry about the possibility of getting a speeding ticket.

It's also a pretty boring drive, and I was fighting the sleep god all of the way. I won, of course.

I was afraid that I would miss Lynn, Dan's wife, because she had to fly back to Oregon to supervise the moving people. Fortunately, she didn't have to leave until this morning, so I did get to visit with her for a while. I haven't seen her for some years, and it was really good to see her. She's a fun person.

Supper was on the table when I arrived, but everyone was just getting finished eating, so they got to watch me eat. We sat around after supper for a while, then I took Dan and Lynn to Braum's for some ice cream. I had a large chocolate malt and they had some kinda sundaes... I didn't pay much attention to what they had, my attention was pretty much riveted on my malt.

Coming back from Braun's, I again gave in to my major addiction and stopped and bought another pack of cigarettes, dammit.

Dan and Lynn were staying in a motel, so they left about 21:30 because they had an early morning... they had to leave about 04:00 so Lynn could catch a plane in OK city. Shortly after they left, I decided that it was bedtime and went up and lay down... but I was unable to get to sleep, so I came back down and talked to Mom for a while. She was playing Free Cell, a game with which I was not familiar. Wow, just what I needed... another computer-based addiction.

So I finally got to sleep about 23:00 and I slept until 06:50, feeling a helluva lot better, I must've slept like a log. Got up and made a pot of coffee, about twice as strong as I had intended to make. MMMmmm good... lots of caffeine!

Mom is watching some fundie preacher on the TV. I'm listening and trying not to laugh... it's really hard.

On smoking... I don't feel too bad about it. I spend 5 1/2 days not smoking, that's pretty good. And I knew that I was going to get in trouble by being tired... one of the three things that break down the will not to smoke. First lesson... don't get too tired, don't get too hungry, don't get too angry. Well, I never really have to worry about getting too angry, but getting too tired seems to just be a major part of being Doug. Hungry, too, to a lesser degree.

Time for a nap almost. Dan got back and then went to get donuts, so that's what we had for breakfast. After that, we basically sat around and talked until it was time for lunch. Dan had gone out to a deli and got all kinds of sandwich stuff yesterday, so we had sandwiches. Then he and Charlie (the poodle) went back to the motel to get some work done and take a nap. And I went up to my room and turned the AC on, so it would be ready for my nap when I was ready... like I said, real soon now.

Damned hot here. Reminds me of Oklahoma in July.

I was going to put the HD in mom's computer this morning, but when I got into it, I found that there wasn't enough room in the inn... rather, this damned thing only has one HD buss, and it's all occupied with the HD that's there and the CDROM-drive. I could just replace the drive, but I didn't bring Office with me... I knew that I was forgetting something, that's what it was.

So, after I get the machine back together, the damned monitor isn't working. After a lot of fiddling around, Dan and I decided that it was just hot... after we turned on the AC and let it sit for a while, it started working again. Go figger. It's a pretty old monitor, anyway, it'll need replacing sometime soon regardless, so I'll start looking for one on eBay.

This is probably it for today.... time for that nap!

Thanx for being here!
