You may find this hard to believe, but I almost decided to go to bed and not make an entry today. But I just couldn't do it.
Working nine out of ten nights makes one tired. This is a fact. Especially if the work is hard. Much of the work that I do is mental, but actually accomplishing the final product takes a lot of physical labor. That's kinda hard to visualize, I know. Maybe someday I'll go through it step-by-step and explain it better.
Shortly after I finished yesterday's entry, Tyler got up. We talked for about thirty minutes, and he decided that he would leave for Texas yesterday. So I stayed up until about 12:00, when he left. I was really sad to see him go, it was really nice having him up for the summer and being able to really get to know him. I miss him already...
So, I cancelled my doctor's appointment, and got one set up for Friday. No more news on that front, the problem still hasn't gone away...
Last night... was generally not fun. We were not busy, so Ann, the other tech that works until 23:00, decided to leave at 22:00 because she was bored and there was nothing to do. So, naturally, at 22:05, I get a call: I have three patients who need CTs and one of them needs a bunch of bone work done too.
So, I go over to turn the CT machine on.
Nothing. It won't turn on. I try several other things... still nothing.
I called the daytime tech (he wasn't on call, but was the most likely person to know how to fix the problem) and he gives me several ideas. None of them work.
In the meantime, the ER people are getting upset, because I'm on the phone and not getting the work done. The patients are continuing to stack up over there.
So Duane, the CT tech, comes in and troubleshoots while I try to get some of the radiographic stuff done. He, too, strikes out, and he has to call the service guy. In the meantime, the patient that I am trying to get the bone work done on, a frail man of 87 years, is fighting me every step of the way. I've had the nurse stay with me since the fellow won't even stay on the table. I wind up getting poked in the eye a couple of times trying to get him radiographed.
Finally the serviceman get here and starts trying to find the problem.
One of the exams is a relatively complicated one, so I have called in Cathy, the girl on call for CT; I am hoping to gain some knowledge of doing this exam for the next time, but it is not to be: I have to hustle off and do more patients.
And when things settle down, they settle all the way down. I didn't have anything else interesting to do the rest of the night... except for the woman whose boyfriend broke her finger to keep her from playing in a band... He dropped her off at the hospital, and presumably picked her up when she got it fixed. I don't understand some things...
OK, there are many things that I don't understand.
I do understand that my bed is beckoning me... luring me into its' sensuous clutches... and I'm going willingly, if not eagerly....
It takes him about an hour, and the doc in the ER is making transportation plans for the patients to go to the other hospital to get their CT exams done.
