13:02

Just got back from fishing. I took my friend Gerry from the hospital with me; I have been regaling him with fish stories for the last couple of months. Wouldn't you know it, I had one of the poorest days I've ever had at Betsy's. We caught maybe twenty fish altogether, Gerry catching the biggest one, about two pounds. It was awfully windy, which might've been the reason. Or maybe Gerry is just bad luck. We'll try it again before I decide...

Really tired. Need to nap before going in to Medassist tonight. I'm shaved and showered, so all I have to do is get out of bed and get dressed. But I'm kinda afraid to go to sleep, I've slept through both alarms before. But I can't really stay up and give quality work. Rock and a hard place. I'm right at home here!

I think I'll chance it, go to sleep. I'll put this up first, then add some more after I get off at 20:30. So check by again, if you get the chance...

GottagotosleepGottagotosleepGottagotosleepGottagotosleepGottagotosleep ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ- zzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz.... RRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr- RRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrr- RRRRRRRrrrrrrrrr...
Tornado sirens! And I can't wake up! Wake up! WAKE UP! OK. I'm awake. Wide awake. Put on the robe. Look out the East window. Sunshine. OK. Look out the West window. Hmmm. Sunshine. Go out on the back deck. Not a cloud. Sirens though. Now they quit. Look around.

Shit! Nuclear war! (I know, there are a few people who didn't live through that era. Please bear with me on this.)

Which way would the missiles come from? Forbes isn't an air force base anymore... the russians aren't coordinated enough to put together an attack... must be the Chinese! I knew Nixon was screwing up being friendly to them... Nixon was such a fuckup...

Go in, turn on the TV. Local stations: regular programming, no weather signals. Weather channel: commercials. No signals. Wait. Local weather comes on. Radar shows... nothing. Nothing in Kansas. At all. Shit! But I do manage to get back to sleep. Battery alarm: 16:15. Shut it off. Regular alarm: 16:25. Hit the snooze. And again. And again. 16:52. I need to be at work in eight minutes... I call them and get dressed and I'm there by 17:05.

I guess there was a malfunction in the siren. It seems like the only one that went off was in my neighborhood. My kinda luck, today.

Got to work, checked a few patients in. Started feeling woozy. The doctor & nurse working with me got concerned, I was pale and diaphoretic. No chest pain, no pain at all, just a really heavy fatigue. Margaret, the nurse, brought me a piece of candy, and I perked up almost immediately. Checked blood sugar, it was 57 after the candy. I continued to feel better the more I ate. Someone had brought in a cake, a drug rep, and it had thick, gooey frosting. MMMM-mmm. And then, of course, I remembered that I hadn't eaten, had consumed way too much caffeine. fished four hours in the hot sun and I'd slept an hour in the last 28. Duh.

I'm getting way too fucking old to be acting this way.

Karen and Andy and Kim went to KC this afternoon, just for fun. They're not home yet, so I'm going to wait until Karen gets home then I'm going to bed. I need to get up fairly early to get to the new Medassist and learn the ropes before the girl I'm working for leaves at 11:00. Really tired, but I'm looking forward to the next few days. Karen and I are going to Wichita this weekend to visit her parents and sister. I haven't seen them for a few months so we'll have fun. Plus it'll be a little getaway for us, we need some together.

Thanx for being here!
